Merzbau Reconstruction

This video shows a reconstruction of the Hannover Merzbau installed at the Berkeley Art Museum in 2011. The reconstruction, first installed at the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, was created by Peter Bissegger in the early 1980’s. Through careful research and calculations, Bissegger reconstructed a portion of the Hannover Merzbau as it appeared around 1930. This video records the reconstruction's installation in Berkeley, and it also walks the viewer through the final installation. This view helps to give the audience an idea of what it would have been like to move through the original Merzbau.
